7:00 p.m. Screening of opening film RICKERL

The Viennese pubs and taverns are Erich “”Rickerl”” Bohacek’s living room and stage. In the thick smoke of cigarettes, he plays for a little pocket money his way into the hearts of those who hang out there every night. And instead of finally recording his first record, Rickerl ekes out a living with odd jobs as a gravedigger and wedding singer. His meagre income is not even enough for a trip to the movies with his six-year-old son Dominik, whom he loves more than anything. For Dominik, Rickerl’s anarchic bohemian life is both an adventure and an effort. Especially as his mother, Rickerl’s ex-girlfriend Viki, lives a middle-class life with her new boyfriend, a “”stuffed Piefke”” with his own home and turf. Rickerl, free spirit and chaotic at the same time, is always getting in his own way. Be it in his sincere attempt to be a good father or to finally make it as a musician. Only when he is in danger of losing his son for good does he realize that he can no longer run away from himself.

9:00 p.m. Voodoo Jürgens’ show

Voodoo Jürgens never wanted to be a star. In the end he became one of Austrias most succesful actors and pop-stars almost by accident. First and foremost he is an artist. His albums released on a small yet cool indie label from Vienna, all topped the Austrian charts despite not sounding mainstream, winning Austrian music awards and accolades. Besides that, they did also well in Germany and Switzerland and as a live-performer he is one of the best and most acclaimed in all three countries, especially when he is backed by his excellent band. Outside of Austria, his songs lyrics in heavy Viennese dialect aren’t understandable, but it seems that does not matter to his German audience. They understand him on a deeper level.

In recent years he also tried acting, and with the music he quickly became one of Austria’s most popular and acclaimed movie actors.

After some arthouse-movies, such as the greek drama “Animal” he played the title-role in 2024s “Rickerl”, which became one of the most successful Austrian movies in recent history. He was also awarded an “Österreichischer Filmpreis” (which is something like the Austrian Oscar).

But Voodoo’s an artist, he doesn’t look back; at the moment he’s picked up a third artistic career as a painter, and has had his first couple of exhibitions, and once again: People seem to love it.

Who knows where all this will be going, but one thing is certain: the future will be exciting.
