Lyne Lapointe L'art et la matière

Carmen Garcia, Germán Gutiérrez

Everything about visual artist Lyne Lapointe reflects the grip that art has on her life. A rebellious and feminist figure, she constantly seeks to expose, through her work, the difficult place of women in society and in the art world. This concern serves as the common thread in the story of her life and her body of work.

Despite a serious accident that brought an end to the first of her groundbreaking urban art projects—works that earned her international recognition—she reinvented her artistic approach with the tenacity that defines her, eventually leading to major exhibitions in Quebec, across Canada, and abroad.

A whimsical and endearing personality, Lyne Lapointe is revealed in this documentary through a blend of beauty, poetry, and humor, while delving into the challenges of both the artistic journey and life itself.

Followed by a discussion with Lyne Lapointe and filmmakers Germán Gutiérrez and Carmen Garcia.

Carmen Garcia

Carmen grew up in Paris, where she studied literature. After moving to Montreal, she began working in publishing and journalism while pursuing studies in communications.

She seized the opportunity to learn the craft of producing at Ciné-Contact, a company specializing in feminist documentaries. She later founded Argus Films, while continuing to collaborate with various private production companies and with the National Film Board of Canada. She has worked as a researcher, screenwriter, and producer, and has also ventured into directing.

Her productions have earned numerous awards and recognition both in Canada and internationally, including the Gémeaux Award for Best Documentary Series (Art) for BDQC, a series on Quebec comic book authors; the Jutra Award for Best Documentary for a feature-length film on filmmaker Pierre Falardeau, co-directed with Germán Gutiérrez; and the Audience Award for Who Shot My Brother? at the Festival du nouveau cinéma in Montreal.
