Jean-François Leblanc

Born in Lac St-Charles in 1984, Jean-François Leblanc has written and scripted numerous short films and series, all of which have enjoyed their share of success.
In 2015, he wrote and directed LE GARS D’LA SHOP, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. In 2018 and 2021, he directed both seasons of the web series L’ARÈNE (selected at Canneseries and winner of Best Series at the La Rochelle Festival), earning Gémeaux nominations for Best Series and Best Direction.

Following LE PRINCE DE VAL-BÉ in 2019 (Seattle International Film Festival, Best Director at Fantasia), he directed LANDGRAVES in 2020, written by Alexandre Auger. The short film was a breakout festival hit, selected in over 55 festivals and winning 20 awards, including Best Short at Fantasia and Cinémania, and Best Director at Trouville and Brooklyn Horror. It was acquired by Bloody Disgusting and Alter, and received a prestigious Vimeo Staff Pick upon its online release.

In 2023, Jean-François presented his eighth short, VIRGA (written by Charles Dionne), which won Best Short Film at both Fantasia and Horrorfest.
In 2024, he directed his debut feature film, VIL ET MISÉRABLE, an adaptation of Samuel Cantin’s graphic novel, co-written with the author.

Jean-François is an exceptionally versatile screenwriter and director: from autobiographical drama to absurd fantasy comedy, psychological thrillers, and anxiety-inducing horror, he can do it all.
