A native of Quebec City, Nicole Giguère began directing documentaries in 1975 with the Vidéo Femmes collective, of which she is a co-founder. During her fifteen years with the group, she created several films and videos addressing women’s issues, exploring a range of styles from social-action documentaries to short fiction films, as well as music videos and musical films.

Based in Montreal, she went on to work as an independent screenwriter and director on original documentaries and television series. Her main interests lie in social phenomena, as well as culture and music. In 1996, Nicole received the Gémeaux Award for Best Documentary for her film *Aller simple pour Sirius*, which explores the drama surrounding the Order of the Solar Temple.

Her more personal films explore international adoption, including *Alice au pays des gros nez* (2003) and *On me prend pour une chinoise!* (2011), two productions whose filming spanned several years. Her feature-length documentary *Prisons sans barreaux, chroniques de l’hypersensibilité environnementale* (Prisons Without Bars: Chronicles of Environmental Hypersensitivity), co-directed with Isabelle Hayeur, premiered in February 2020 at the RVQC.

Since 2007, she has served on the board of directors of Réalisatrices Équitables as treasurer and coordinator of several initiatives promoting women filmmakers. In the fall of 2025, she received the Gémeaux Award for Artisans for her lifetime achievement.
