Laurent Perrier has made an irrevocable decision. Not out of despair, but out of deep conviction. Before he leaves, he wants to settle his affairs and ensure nothing is left unresolved. He summons his daughter to his country home. But just as tensions are already running high, a stranger knocks at the door—and with his arrival, the family’s peace is shattered.
Between this unexpected visitor, a will destined to stir up trouble, and a neighbor who refuses to let go, what was meant to be an orderly departure quickly descends into chaos.
By trying to control everything right to the end, Laurent triggers the very thing he sought to avoid—forcing everyone to confront a question we would rather not face:
To whom does our life belong?
A tender, insightful human comedy about the weight of secrets, clumsy love, and the right to choose.

Louis Bélanger is one of the few Quebec filmmakers who can lay claim to both auteur cinema and popular cinema. Firmly grounded at a human level—inventive yet accessible, personal yet universal— his work sketches landscapes that are rich and instantly familiar, delighting cinephiles both at home and abroad.
In 2017, Louis Bélanger was named a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters of the French Republic—an honor recognizing his exceptional career, and in particular his contribution to promoting and raising the profile of French-language cinema.
