Bad seeds

Louis Bélanger

Jacques (Alexis Martin), a struggling actor on the run from a loan shark, reluctantly strikes a deal with Simon (Gilles Renaud), a rural farmer with a secret marijuana greenhouse, to help him cultivate a marijuana crop for harvest. In exchange, Simon will hide him from the gangster he owes money to and give him a cut of the profits so that he can pay off his debts.

When they are forced to bring in a sassy energy technician (Emmanuelle Lussier-Martinez) to help their secret grow-op thrive, both men’s secrets are threatened, and the race is on to complete the harvest before they’re discovered.

Louis Bélanger

Louis Bélanger is one of the few Québec filmmakers whose work successfully bridges auteur cinema and popular filmmaking. Deeply human, both personal and universal, his films have earned the admiration of audiences and cinephiles in Québec and abroad.
His debut feature, Post Mortem, won the Best Director Award at the World Film Festival, along with five Jutra Awards and three Genie Awards. In 2003, Gaz Bar Blues received widespread critical acclaim and won numerous awards.
His other feature films include Le génie du crime, The Timekeeper, Route 132, Les mauvaises herbes (Bad Seeds), and Living at 100 Miles an Hour. In 2017, Louis Bélanger was named a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French Republic in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the promotion of French-language cinema.
