Experience the magic of silent cinema with an exceptional live-scored film event, presented in collaboration with the Sherbrooke Youth Symphony Orchestra and the University of Sherbrooke’s composition program.
This year, two short films transport us back to the wondrous early days of cinema: *A Midsummer Night’s Dream*—a magical, poetic adaptation of Shakespeare’s world directed in 1909 by American film pioneers J. Stuart Blackton and Charles Kent—and *Bout-de-Zan et le crocodile*, a playful slapstick comedy by Louis Feuillade released in 1913, featuring the irresistible Bout-de-Zan in a mischievous romp. Notably, Louis Feuillade—a native of Lunel in the Occitanie region—is a towering figure in the history of French cinema. His inclusion in the program reflects the partnership the Knowlton Film Festival is developing for 2026 with the Occitanie region of France. Accompanied live by the young musicians of the Sherbrooke Youth Symphony Orchestra, the films will come back to life on the big screen through original scores created specifically for the occasion by students from the composition program. Each film will be preceded by a discussion with the student composers, offering unique insight into the creative process.
