Born in Naples in 1970, director and screenwriter Paolo Sorrentino left his economics studies at 25 to pursue filmmaking.
A regular at the Cannes Film Festival, he achieved international acclaim by winning the 2014 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film for The Great Beauty.
Also a published novelist, he successfully ventured into television with The Young Pope while continuing to build a major cinematic body of work (Il Divo, Youth).
