Through the personal recollections of a friend, the film draws us into the intimate world of Jean-Claude Lauzon. Drawing on the testimonies of those who knew him at various stages of his life—as well as excerpts from his work—we discover an intense, complex, and deeply lucid individual; a courageous yet tormented artist who marked a turning point in Canadian cinema.
It is a film about friendship, creativity, and the power of poetry—a moving and finely crafted portrait that, in seeking to recreate the breathless pace of Jean-Claude Lauzon’s own life, sweeps the viewer into the very heart of his life’s struggle.

Louis Bélanger is one of the few Quebec filmmakers who can lay claim to both auteur cinema and popular cinema. Firmly grounded in the human experience—inventive yet accessible, personal yet universal—his work creates rich, instantly familiar landscapes that delight cinephiles both at home and abroad.
In 2017, Louis Bélanger was named a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters of the French Republic, an honor recognizing his exceptional career—and, in particular, his contribution to the promotion and global reach of French-language cinema.
