Mathieu Sapin, born on October 7, 1974, in Dijon, is a French comic book author and illustrator. He studied illustration at the École supérieure des arts décoratifs in Strasbourg starting in 1992. From 1996 to 1998, he illustrated for the children's monthly magazine *Je bouquine* and also worked at the Angoulême Comics Museum.
He creates work for young readers, collaborating with publishers such as Bayard, Nathan, and Bréal. For adult audiences, he is a regular contributor to *Psikopat* magazine. His best-known film is *Le Poulain* (2018), a satirical comedy starring Alexandra Lamy that goes behind the scenes of a presidential campaign. He has also directed documentaries, such as *La Disparition* (2022).
He is widely known for his "reportage" comics, in which he immerses himself in closed worlds such as politics or the Ministry of the Interior. It was while observing the inner workings of power up close that he was inspired to make films.
