Louise Denoncourt, a parole officer unlike any other, deftly operates an experimental rehabilitation wing for murderers. A new inmate in her care is suspected of killing her mother. Riddled with doubt, Louise embarks on a mission that quickly goes beyond her. How far will she go to prevent him from killing again?

Followed by a discussion with the director François Péloquin and Sarah Lévesque.

François Péloquin

A born anthropologist with a love for people, François Péloquin is inspired by those situations through which human beings reveal themselves in all their truth. It was while touring the world for Radio-Canada’s La course destination monde 97-98 that he discovered a medium that would lead him to shoot music videos and short films, as well as create visual designs for theater. Constantly on the lookout for details imbued with veracity, François draws from the extraordinary stemming from everyday life to create inspiring and touching visual staging. He has directed ad films, documentary series (Génération 60, Bande à Part, Hors Série, Classe à part), and documentary films (Renaître). The Sound of Trees (Le bruit des arbres), his first feature film, was selected in official competition at Karlovy Vary (Czech Republic) for its world premiere, at the Mostra de Sao Paolo (Brazil), at SIFF (Seattle, USA), at Tallin Black Nights (Estonia), at FIFF (Namur, Belgium) and won Best Emerging Director at VIFF (Vancouver) and the Gaspésie Les Îles prize at Les Percéides festival in Percé. The Thawing of Ice (La fonte des glace) is his second feature film.
