Pierre Hébert, born January 19, 1944, in Montreal, is a Québécois filmmaker and scratch animator. Known for his unique style, he scratches directly onto film to create distinctive cinematic artworks. Hébert began his career at the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) in 1965, influenced by Norman McLaren. His films, such as “The Human Plant” (1996), are acclaimed for their innovation. A multidisciplinary artist, he often incorporates live performances and musical collaborations into his creations. In 2004, he received the Prix Albert-Tessier for cinema. His work continues to inspire artists around the world.
